Adonais and Amanda, young Canarian designers, present their very perculiar brand which they have called “Como la trucha al trucho”.
“We were certain that by designing our own brand, we would do everything: the pattern, the logo, the designs…”
- How did the taste for fashion come into your lives?
In Adonais case, the taste for fashion came from her grandmother, who had been sewing since he was a little boy and on his mother’s side, who is the owner of a clothing boutique. These are the reasons why he has been linked to fashion his whole life. In Amanda´s case, she was not sure that fashion was going to be her vocation, but with time she realized that she had her own style of clothing which she liked, so she enrolled in a course of Arts in Secondary School, which is where her taste for fashion appeared.
- When did you know you wanted to be designers?
Amanda and Adonais met each other studying a Fashion Design course in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, which led them to study the degree of Graphic Design where they realized they wanted to be part of the world of fashion and everything that it entailed. But actually, when they attended a fashion show called “Moda Cálida” that was when they both decided to create a brand and it also brought on a desire to be able to participate in events like the ones they had attended as spectators.
- How many years have you worked on your brand?
They decided to present their first designs full of colour and with a touch of madness in the most renowned fashion evento in the Canary Islands: The Gran Canaria Fashion and Friends, a festival full of ideas and new trends in their own right. After five years they have now become the young fashion designers of “Moda Cálida”.
- How did the name of the Brand come about?
After several attempts and suggestions, they decided to opt for “Como la trucha al trucho”, the affectionate way they used to say goodnight to each other and they believed that it defined them perfectly.
- Is it difficult to grow in the fashion world in the Canary Islands?
Adonais and Amanda confirm that it is difficult to grow in the world of fashion with regards to the Canary Islands because there is a lot of competition, but for them it has not been very difficult being as they have always believed in their designs and they have defended them with great naturalness and honesty, an aspect that characterizes these young designers.
“It’s difficult because the means are scarce, but not impossible”
- What is the focus of your designs?
When a fashion designer prepares to launch a collection, he uses the Mood Board tool. Which helps them achieve ideas of what they want to create, a panel with all their ideas that inspire the next collection. Having said that, Adonais and Amanda tell us that they do not focus on a particular range, they collect all the ideas they have during the whole year until they create the perfect collection, always emphasizing its retro style, with a hint of the 90s.
- What kind of clothing would you like to emphasize?
When it comes to designing a new collection what can not be missing are the high-rise pants and tops, garments that are, in one form or another, in their collections with different patterns or forms.
- When making a new collection, what requirements do you take into account before designing?
An essential requirement in Adonais and Amandas collection is colour, an aspect that characterizes them and their brand, but not any colour; yellow. They believe that it is a colour that generates life and light to their garments.
- Last month you presented your new collection which you have called “Girl Yeye” What can you tell us about it?
While designing this collection, Amanda and Adonais realized they were promoting the French style, specifically the French women of the 60s, hence its name. Totally different clothing for fun girls that follows the philosophy of their clients.
- Where can we find your designs?
